A few days ago we did a landmark walkabout of the Guggenheim, The Metropolitan Museum of Art and Central Park. Bugger that the walkway of the Guggy was closed but we got to see it anyway. To top the day off we took in The Paley Centre for Media. All excited about expecting to see Howdy Doody, the Lone Ranger’s Mask, maybe Zorro’s sword or a lock of Lucille Ball’s hair we paid our $10. The expectations were flattened when the counter person explained that none of those things were there but we could search their database for any TV show, our little smiles dropped, we held each other tight but being stoic troopers holding back tears we sat down to search. We watched an episode of Mary Tyler Moore (very funny), The Bob Newhart Show (bit funny), and the Dick Van Dyke show in which Mary Tyler Moore played his wife (she is good). The centre was done out like a library reading room or one of those rooms the relatives can sit at funerals (without the fake flowers) and the staff seemed to be level 10 librarians with stern faces in suits. We left before our time was up, I think we have been spoilt by our downloading habits vowing to get Mary Tyler Moore from the interweb.
On leaving Glen matter of factly stated “we just paid ten bucks each to watch youtube”. When he’s right he’s right.
