Jesus, why are you so sad?

At the back of our apartment (and up a bloody big hill) is the famous Prague Castle. It is a large complex with a rich history. it was most likely founded in 880AD and from there on it has occupied, abandoned, renovated. then abandoned and so on.

The shot below is just one small part. It was pretty hot, the hill was very steep so we decided to do a bit today and a bit tomorrow.

P1030538 (450x800)We started with a Byzantine art exhibition.

3 floors of Jesus.

We can only assume that there was a competition 600 years ago to see who could sculpt the most unhappy Jesus.

We walked through room after room, with ornate, hand painted ceilings stuffed with life size sculptures of Jesus on the cross.

Below are selection of the ones we thought were the most unhappy.

It’s very easy to lose yourself in the cobblestones, shadows and narrow streets and to actually imagine what it would have been like, right at this spot, over a 1,000 years ago until a gaggle of wankers on Segways whizz by.

I have to confess i have had to use the GPS on my Windows Mobile Phone coming home from Bill’s on Crown street after taking a wrong turn. I do not have the best sense of direction.

So having Zach with me has been brilliant. The streets in Prague have no rhyme or reason and when reading street names – Vcztrelies Nameski looks very similar to Vcztrelies Nameski . It is what is so unbelievably charming about this city.

Anyway , Zach has been the man with the map and tonight he guided us over the bridge (more on that later) and into the bowels off Old Town ( we are in Lesser Town). We came in search of pork knuckles.

I will let the pictures tell the story.
